Bank Rakyat has been invited to open a branch in Brunei

Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the offer to the cooperative bank was made by a government representative during his last visit to Brunei.

"They were impressed with Bank Rakyat's success," he told reporters after opening Bank Rakyat's annual general meeting at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur today.

"To realise this, Bank Rakyat needs to study the procedure and obtain Bank Negara's approvals because opening a branch overseas is not easy," he said.
Ismail also said Bank Rakyat planned to open six new branches this year, namely in Bera and Bentong in Pahang, Petrajaya and Limbang in Sarawak, Kota Marudu in Sabah and Kuala Berang in Kedah.

Last year, Bank Rakyat achieved a record profit before tax and tithe of RM1.55 billion. Its total assets grew to RM50.67 billion. -- Bernama
